Configuring alert notifications
In the event administrators need to be immediately notified in the event of a managed system failure, there is a way of setting up automated email notifications in OpenIAM. These notifications ensure that administrators are promptly alerted whenever a managed system experiences a failure, allowing for faster response and resolution of issues. By completing the steps below, OpenIAM will automatically notify administrators of managed system failures in near real-time, allowing for quick investigation and resolution. Ensure that monitoring mailboxes are actively checked.
Pre-requisites
Before you begin configuring the feature, please make sure you have the following.
- Access to the OpenIAM Administration console.
- SMTP relay configuration details (host, port, and authentication if applicable).
- Permissions to create and manage groups in OpenIAM.
Configuring an SMTP relay
OpenIAM requires an SMTP relay to send notification emails. To configure the relay, please follow the official documentation at this link.
- Log in to OpenIAM webconsole.
- Navigate to Administration > Mail Management > SMTP Configuration.
- Enter the SMTP relay details (hostname, port, credentials, etc.).
- Save the configuration.
Creating or selecting the notification group
For the feature implementation, you need a user group that will receive the connector failure alerts. To create or select the corresponding group, follow the steps below.
- Navigate to User Administration > Group Search.
- You may either:
- Create a New Group (recommended for alerting).
- Select an existing group.
- Add users to the selected group, alerts will be sent to these users.
Assigning a group to connector status notifications
Now, link the group to receive connector alerts.
- Navigate to Administration > System Configuration.
- Locate the Connector Status Notification Group and select the group created/selected in the previous step.
- Save the configuration.
Receiving automated alerts
Once the feature is configured, OpenIAM will check all managed system health every 1 minute. Any issue will trigger an automated email to the selected group. Example of a received alert email is given below.
