# Your profile picture

Add, replace, or remove the photo shown on your profile.

Your photo appears on your profile and, depending on your organization's setup, next to your name elsewhere in the portal — in the directory, on requests, and on approvals. It helps colleagues recognise who they are approving access for.

## Adding or changing your photo

Open your profile — your name in the top-right corner → **Profile → Edit Profile** — and use **Upload Profile Picture**, or **Change Photo** if you already have one.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}
**Choose an image file from your computer.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}
**Save.**

You see *"Image uploaded successfully"* and the new photo appears straight away.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

To take the photo down again, use **Delete Photo**. You see *"Image deleted successfully"*, and your profile falls back to a default placeholder.

## Image requirements

Your organization sets the limits, and the page tells you the exact numbers if you exceed them. There are three rules:

| Rule | Message if you break it |
| ------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------- |
| **File type** — only certain formats are accepted | *"Invalid image type. Allowed formats: …"* |
| **Dimensions** — a maximum width and height | *"Image dimensions must not exceed … px wide by … px tall"* |
| **File size** — a maximum size in kilobytes | *"Image file size must not exceed … KB"* |

If you see *"Invalid image"*, the file is either corrupt or not really an image — a renamed document, for example.

{% hint style="info" %}
A square, head-and-shoulders photo works best: profile pictures are usually displayed small and cropped to a circle, so a full-length photo becomes unrecognisable. If your file is rejected for size, resizing it to roughly 500 × 500 pixels is normally enough.
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.openiam.com/end-user-guide-for-selfservice/your-profile/profile-picture.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
