# Configure platform services

Route to the platform-wide service you need to configure — properties, mail, OTP delivery, localization, consent, promotion or a supporting service.

## What this is, and when you need it

Everything in this section is configured once for the installation rather than per user, per application or per managed system. The settings here decide what the console *says* (localization), how it *reaches* people (mail, SMS, OTP), what it *demands* before letting them in (consent), and how you move a working configuration from one environment to the next.

Two pages come first regardless of your task:

* [**System configuration**](/administration-guide/platform/system-configuration.md) is the single screen behind `/webconsole/propertyValues` and one table, `PROPERTY_FILE_VALUES`. Almost every property named in this section is edited there.
* [**Where settings live**](/administration-guide/start/where-settings-live.md) explains the four layers a value can come from and which one the running service actually reads. A container `OPENIAM_PROP_*` override is invisible from the Webconsole, so if a value on screen does not match the behaviour, start there.

## Two shipped defaults worth knowing before you start

{% hint style="warning" %}
**The OTP email body has a blank line until you set one property.** `OTP_CODE` renders `companyName` from `org.openiam.ui.page.title.organization.name`, which ships empty. See [SMS and one-time passwords](/administration-guide/platform/sms-and-otp.md).

**Adding a language does not translate anything.** Object names are `LANGUAGE_MAPPING` rows and a missing row leaves the raw `RES.NAME` identifier on screen — `OTP_PROVIDERS`, not "OTP Providers". See [Languages and localization](/administration-guide/platform/localization.md).
{% endhint %}

Before any change here, read [Change configuration safely](/administration-guide/start/change-safely.md) once. It is the safety standard these pages assume rather than repeat.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.openiam.com/administration-guide/platform.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
